Stained Glass Windows at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, NC

In 2009, Laws Stained Glass Studios installed (16) opalescent glass windows at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, NC. The eight main sanctuary windows (53" wide x 115" high with a round top), two smaller sanctuary windows (37" wide x 82" high with a round top), two windows (37" wide x 50" high), and three windows (37" wide x 38" high) all had just opalescent glass with no artwork or memorial plate. One transom (size 65" wide x 15" high) had a scroll with the church's name. All the windows except the transom received new white aluminum frames.

This was a difficult installation because the inside wood casing was smaller than the outside brick opening. The existing windows were made of steel frames which were installed into the brick opening. After the steel frame was installed, beautiful wood casing was applied to the interior openings and butt up against the steel frame. From the inside the outer rim of the steel frame was not visible.

Laws came and removed the steel frame window. Laws made the new white aluminum frame to fit the inside wood casing. An adapter aluminum frame was added to it on the outside to make it fit the brick size. On the interior of the new white aluminum frame, the leaded, opalescent glass window was set. On the exterior, Laws installed 1/4" Lucite acrylic as the protective covering. Unlike the other windows, the transom was set into the existing wood frame.
