Stained Glass Windows at Old Providence Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, NC

In 1961 and 1962, Laws Stained Glass Studios provided stained glass windows for Old Providence Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, NC.  Laws began by providing steel frames with ventilators for the sanctuary windows and steel casement windows for the others.  The ten sanctuary windows (size 32" wide x 72" high) are made of leaded opalescent glass and contain a 12" oval Biblical scene from the life of Christ and a memorial plate.  The six smaller windows (size 31" wide x 62"high) and two (size 16" wide x 24" high) did not receive leaded panels, but had opalescent sheet glass glazed into the frame.  A transom (size 72" wide x 17" high) had a leaded opalescent glass window with the church name written on a scroll.

The windows did not have any protective covering.  In 1982, Laws came and replaced (4) broken pieces of opalescent glass and (1) oval Biblical scene.

In 2015, Laws Stained Glass returned to restore and repair the windows.  The scope of work consisted of the following:
      • Remove the old putty and re-glaze the steel frames and ventilators with new polyurethane glazing.
      • Prime and paint one finish coat of paint on the steel frames, inside and out.
      • Paint the new glazing.
      • Replace one broken Biblical scene (Sermon on the Mount).
      • Replace (1) broken piece of sheet glass (size 16" wide x 11-3/8" high).

On the exterior, 1/4" Lucite acrylic was installed as the protective covering and (2) rows of 1/2" x 1/2" white aluminum stop was used to float it in place.
